As part of a series of education-related announcements, the provincial government announced that it was establishing a panel of education experts to review how students in Ontario are assessed. In particular, the panel is considering possible updates to report cards, as well as the role, relevance, and timing of EQAO testing.
Following the announcement, President Liz Stuart published an op-ed in QP Briefing, a subscription-based news service run by the Toronto Star and widely read by MPPs and staff at Queen’s Park. The op-ed outlines the Association’s longstanding position that the EQAO testing regime is counterproductive, and can even be harmful to students and the school community. The article urges the government to consider ending the EQAO testing regime, and redirecting those funds back into the classroom, where they can be more effective.
