Ontario English Catholic Teachers

OTIP

The Ontario Teachers’ Insurance Plan (OTIP) is the provider of choice for the Association. The company was created specifically to address the needs of the educational community. OTIP is a not-for-profit insurance advocate and is governed by the four teacher associations. Two representatives from our Association sit on the Board of Trustees of OTIP and help to provide direction to OTIP’s leadership.

OTIP offers members a full range of group and individual insurance products, including life, long-term care, home and auto, identity theft, retiree health, travel, and dental care plans. Additionally, OTIP provides members with access to programs, like CAREpath and FeelingBetterNow, which seek to address teachers’ health and wellness needs.

CAREpath

CAREpath is a Canadian organization that specializes in cancer-related service programs and is made available through OTIP. The following three services are offered as part of the CAREpath program:

  • Navigation System – Tailored one-on-one emotional support and medical advice from the initial cancer diagnosis, throughout treatment, post-treatment and into remission
  • Survivor Support – Information and guidance for successful survivorship
  • Cancer Information Line – Cancer-related information for extended family members, colleagues and friends who have been diagnosed with cancer

FeelingBetterNow

This program helps teachers to get the right diagnosis and treatment as early as possible. FeelingBetterNow is a confidential web-based healthcare program designed for early diagnosis and ongoing management of common emotional and mental health issues.

Available to all OTIP members and their families free-of-charge, FeelingBetterNow is an assessment tool designed for both physicians and patients.

Retiree Health Benefits

As a non-profit trust, OTIP’s Retired Teachers Insurance Plan (RTIP) offers three comprehensive health care plans for retirees through Manulife Financial. Premiums are payable in the same month that coverage starts. You can apply for coverage through OTIP within 60 days of the date that any existing coverage through any group employee health plan ceases.
