Celebrating Catholic Teachers and All Teachers on World Teachers' Day

October 5 is World Teachers' Day – a time to celebrate you, and the dedication, passion, and resilience of teachers across Ontario and around the world! This day reminds us of the essential role teachers play to help future generations learn, grow, and succeed.

Despite the ever-changing education landscape, you are always going above and beyond each and every day. During these challenging times, we have seen your unwavering commitment, creativity, and care in the classroom to ensure that every student is supported academically, spiritually, and emotionally. As Catholic teachers, you make our publicly funded education system world class!

Recent polling data shows that 95 per cent of Canadians believe in the power of publicly funded education, and the difference it can make not only for students individually but for our society more broadly, when it comes to economic competitiveness and reducing poverty. This is a testament to your hard work and perseverance – and that of all teachers. We call on community members, government leaders, and all stakeholders to join us in recognizing the invaluable contribution of teachers, and to continue advocating for the resources, support, and respect you deserve.

Happy World Teachers' Day to you and all teachers around the world! Let us continue to inspire, uplift, and make a lasting difference in the lives of our students and our society.”

- René Jansen in de Wal, President of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association
