Ontario English Catholic Teachers

Eligibility

Prerequisites

Temporary or Transitional Certificates

Admission to Part 1
  • You must be a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
  • For Kindergarten, you must hold a Basic Qualification for the Primary Division
  • For FSL Part 1, please see transcript requirements on course page as well as proficiency test parameters
  • You must submit a Certification of Qualification and Registration to the course instructor by the start of the course

Admission to Part 2

  • You must be a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
  • You must submit a Certification of Qualification and Registration to the course instructor by the start of the course
  • You must hold the corresponding Part 1 AQ
  • You must provide evidence of at least one year (194 days) of successful teaching experience certified by an appropriate Supervisory Officer (not a Principal)
  • You must complete the Certificate of Teaching Experience Form and submit it to the course instructor by the start of the course

Admission to Specialist

  • You must be a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
  • You must submit a Certification of Qualification and Registration to the course instructor by the start of the course
  • You must hold the corresponding Part 2 AQ
  • You must provide evidence of at least two years (388 days) of successful teaching experience, including one school year (194 days) of experience in the subject in which the qualification is being sought
  • You must complete the Certificate of Teaching Experience Form and submit it to the course instructor by the start of the course

English Language Proficiency

In order to successfully complete an AQ course, you must demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in both oral and written English. Upon completion of an AQ course, you will receive certification to teach in schools where English is the language of instruction, and where you will be expected to be an effective role model in the use of oral and written English.
