“To my surprise, there were many similarities between my classroom experiences and those of the Ghanaian teachers. We confided in each other over topics of classroom management and student engagement. We spoke about the challenges that teachers face within the classroom and strategies that work within our schools, both in Canada and Ghana. The bonds formed with these teachers and principals was something I had never imagined could happen. We were people from different continents, different cultures, different education systems, but we were part of the same community – a community of teachers. I have never felt prouder to be a teacher than I did standing alongside my Ghanaian colleagues, discussing the power of education and the importance of community.”
