Catholic teachers celebrate Pride Month

“Catholic teachers join with our LGBTQ2SI+ communities and labour and social justice allies in celebrating Pride Month this June.

Each and every day Catholic teachers strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for all, and to imbue our classrooms with the respect and inclusivity in keeping with our faith and belief that everyone is deserving of God’s love.

As an ally to our students, teachers, education workers, and broader communities that self-identify as LGBTQ2SI+, we continue to add the strength of our voice to a range of important equity-related issues.

And while there is undoubtedly progress still to be made in the Catholic education community with respect to LGBTQ2SI+ issues, OECTA is proud of the role we have played in changing attitudes by championing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

To further that commitment, the Association recently passed a motion at our Annual General Meeting to strengthen the role of our Diversity Advisory Board, as it works to empower our members from equity-deserving groups, and advance social justice within our Association and classrooms.

We will continue to do everything we can to promote respect and human rights, and work toward creating a culture in our schools and society that allows individuals and families to live healthy lives free of harassment and prejudice.”
