"Catholic teachers are deeply saddened by the horrific Islamophobic attack in London, Ontario that claimed the lives of four family members, and left the fifth, a nine-year-old boy, in the hospital with serious injuries. We offer our prayers and condolences to the family, Muslim community, and all those impacted by this tragedy. And we add our voice to the calls for justice.
According to reports, this attack was premeditated and motivated by hate.
This is not an isolated incident. It is part of a trend. A disturbing rise in anti-Muslim hate across Canada.
This racism cannot be tolerated. As we join with family, friends, and the Muslim community in mourning this devastating loss, we must do more.
To realize a safe and welcoming environment for all we must directly confront the forces of fear in our communities to end this and all other forms of hate and prejudice and the violence they perpetuate."
Liz Stuart, President of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association
