"Catholic teachers are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting in Colorado Springs this past weekend, and our hearts are with the families, friends, and loved ones of those impacted by this unspeakable act of violence.
This vile attack, which targeted members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and was perpetrated on the eve of the Transgender Day of Remembrance, is a devastating reminder that there is still so much work to do – individually and collectively – to realize the goal of eliminating systemic intolerance and violence, in North America and across the world.
We offer our deepest condolences and prayers to those affected. Catholic teachers believe that everyone is deserving of God’s love. We will continue to use our voices to join and amplify calls from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to directly confront the forces of fear and violence they face, and to end this and all other forms of hate and prejudice."
