"Today’s announcement from Minister of Education Stephen Lecce is yet another underfunded initiative that fails to provide teachers and education workers with the time and resources necessary to properly implement these rushed curriculum changes.
Despite the Minister’s claims, the Ford government is not investing new money through the Grants for Student Needs (GSNs) to support the announced curriculum change. In the Fall Economic Statement, the Ford government cut $500 million from schools. The GSNs shuffled this money back, in an attempt by the Ford government to deceive Ontarians.
Catholic teachers are dedicated professionals, proud to contribute to delivering a world-class education to Ontario students. We are also deeply committed to eliminating racism, discrimination, and all systemic barriers in our schools and society. We continue to offer our perspectives on how to implement these curriculum changes in ways that best support educators and students alike, and address inequities in our classrooms and beyond.
Rushed, last-minute, sweeping changes, implemented without training and resources, are not the sign of a government committed to an effective implementation and improved outcomes for students."
